In a series of dynamic gatherings organized under the Citizen Z-project, young people from across Belgium came together to address two pressing issues: social (in)justice and climate change. Held in Antwerp and Houthalen-Helchteren, Limburg, these events provided a platform for youth to express their concerns, learn from experts and activists, and engage in meaningful discussions about the future of their communities and the planet.

The topics of social (in)justice and climate change were chosen by the participants themselves, reflecting their deep interest and concern for these global challenges. This led to vibrant panel discussions, roundtables and deliberative workshops, especially during the main event on March 2, 2024, in Antwerp.

The events saw active participation from over 103 young people, a diverse group of both male and female participants coming from different backgrounds and representing various cultures and communities, which enriched the discussions with a wide range of perspectives.

The young attendees recommended that policymakers prioritize investments in affordable and energy-efficient housing, enhance social support for vulnerable groups to promote inclusion, and strengthen community integration through accessible and inclusive spaces. They also emphasized the crucial role of schools in educating about social justice from an early age, and urged policymakers to actively engage with youth culture and social media to effectively communicate and raise awareness about critical issues. Their collective vision was captured in the phrase: "Think globally, Act locally, Plan for the Future."

The Citizen Z gatherings underscored the commitment of Belgium's youth to not only understand the complexities of social and environmental issues but also to contribute to tangible solutions that can shape a more just and sustainable future.
